Luke Buchanan: Volunteering His Time

Luke Buchanan has always been committed to donating his time to worthy causes. From his youngest years on, Luke Buchanan has taken time out from his own pursuits to spend time volunteering. It is a trait that has continued on into adulthood.

Luke Buchanan
Luke Buchanan first began to volunteer in Washington, D.C., where he grew up. His earliest experience was working with the Spanish Education Development Center. The center provides daycare for underprivileged children. Education, and getting an early start, is an integral part of growing up, and Luke Buchanan wants to do whatever he can to make sure each and every person, regardless of their social standing, is able to take advantage of America’s great education system.
The desire to keep volunteering his time only grew as Luke Buchanan became older. After Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans in 2005, Luke Buchanan began working with Habitat for Humanity to help rebuild its neighborhoods. Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization dedicated to building simple, decent, and affordable housing. The experience with post-Katrina New Orleans may have helped spark Luke Buchanan’s interest in real estate.

Luke Buchanan knows that an education and a home are nothing if there is not a healthy planet to live on. This is why he spent time working with 350.org while he was in New Orleans going to school at Tulane University. 350.org is a global climate movement dedicated to lowering the planet’s carbon count to 350 parts per million.

Now that he’s living in Washington D.C. again, Luke Buchanan still volunteers his time. When he is not working, Luke Buchanan likes to give his time volunteering for various organizations. Presently, Luke Buchanan is a volunteer photographer for PetFinder.com, a site to help good pets find good homes. Since animals are unable to help themselves, Luke Buchanan is happy to volunteer his time to help them. Luke Buchanan knows that volunteering time and even photography skills is the best way to give back. Volunteering, according to Luke Buchanan, is a great way to boost a resume and spend extra time.

Marketing Yourself: Networking with Luke Buchanan

Everyone knows the importance of marketing a product or an actual business, but Luke Buchanan has the secret to marketing yourself as well. Portraying a good image reflects well on you, but also your company. For this reason, Luke Buchanan puts the utmost importance on marketing.

Having a strong presence online helps with self marketing as it provides people with various avenues to learn more about you. Luke Buchanan achieves this by having multiple online profiles like LinkedIn and Facebook. He also makes sure to spend time on his blog and to post pictures of his properties and past times. It is also necessary for Luke Buchanan to stay current on news and events so that he is always in the loop.

The internet is not the only way that Luke Buchanan markets, though. He has also become a member of multiple professional organizations. Groups and organizations geared towards businesses or professionals are a great way to get your name out there and to network with other people in your situation. Luke Buchanan has been a part of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, American Marketing Association, and Dentsu Alumni Worldwide.

Becoming a volunteer is another way that Luke Buchanan networks. The connections that are made during a volunteer activity or at a meeting might not only be useful to those who are in need, but can be a great way to meet people you would have never met otherwise. When going out into the world, either online or in reality, Luke Buchanan always makes sure to put his best foot forward in order to gain the respect of his peers.

Luke Buchanan: Why You Should Care About the Environment

Luke Buchanan knows that it sounds cliché, but it is true now more than ever – we only get one environment and we only get one planet. Therefore we all need to pitch in to make a difference before it is too late. Luke Buchanan makes a difference by working with Event 350.

Event 350 is a non-profit organization out of New Orleans that is working to lower the carbon count in the atmosphere to 350 ppm. Carbon, and an excess of it, is thought to contribute to the unnatural and detrimental warming of the Earth.

Luke Buchanan has always really enjoyed spending time outdoors and staying active with sports or other activities. He really appreciates the natural beauty of our country and loves to get out into the woods to go hiking or on the river to go kayaking. As a result Luke Buchanan decided to help save our atmosphere, the most crucial aspect of our existence.

But Luke Buchanan suggests that you find an environmental cause that you care about personally. There is a lot of planet that needs taking care of and it is simply up to you to jump in and help. Even if carbon count does not interest you, it doesn't mean that you cannot find something to be passionate about like Luke Buchanan.

If you like boating or swimming, volunteer to clean the local waterways, or if you're a photographer like Luke Buchanan, offer to be the photographer for a fundraising event. There are all sorts of ways to get involved in saving the planet.

Real Estate Agent Luke Buchanan: Tips for New Skiers

As a longtime and avid skier, Luke Buchanan remembers how complicated it can be going down the slopes the very first time. It is also pretty daunting when you are looking down the side of a mountain about to take the plunge. So here are some tips from Luke Buchanan on how to get started.

Make sure you have all your equipment. Luke Buchanan is pretty sure that not only is it rather embarrassing to get up the ski lift and realize you forgot something, but it can be very cold and uncomfortable as well. So make sure to make a list of everything you will need. Also make sure that all the clothes and equipment fit well, especially if you are renting. According to Luke Buchanan, the best bet is to dress warmly, but in layers as the physical activity can warm things up.

Take classes with an instructor. Or, you can get pointers from another experienced skier, like Luke Buchanan. They can show you how to hold your body, where to put your feet, how to start moving, and, most importantly, how to stop moving. Most resorts offer courses at many different levels so you should be able to find some help no matter your needs. Luke Buchanan also says you should start small. Slopes have a variety of designations from the easiest, bunny, to the most difficult, black diamond. The easier it is, the lower the incline and the less dangerous it is as a result.

Luke Buchanan knows, though, that the most important part is to have a good time.

Luke Buchanan: How Being in a Fraternity Changed His Life

To Luke Buchanan, family is about a sense of community and brotherhood. It is not just the people that you are related to, it is about putting together a group of people in your life that you know you can always count on and can always count on you. It is about being a part of something bigger than yourself. So when he joined the Tau Epsilon Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and became the pledge class president, Luke Buchanan knew that he was going to get a lot out of the experience.

Joining Sigma Alpha Epsilon at Tulane University was a turning point for Luke Buchanan. He found lifelong friends and brothers through the group and still stays in contact with them to this day through his blog at www.LukeBuchanan.com and through his other social media profiles as well. Having such a close knit group of friends can really help lessen the stress of college.

The fraternity also gave Luke Buchanan a support group of like-minded individuals to confide in throughout school and a vast network of connections outside of school. Luke Buchanan joined the Sigma Alpha Epsilon alumni association in 2011 along with the Tulane alumni association.

Thanks to his time with the fraternity, Luke Buchanan has been given a number of opportunities to network with his fellow alums and make professional, as well as personal, connections that never would have occurred otherwise. Luke Buchanan attributes his success to his time at Tulane University and the time he spent in Sigma Alpha Epsilon.
