As a longtime and avid skier, Luke Buchanan
remembers how complicated it can be going down the slopes the very first time.
It is also pretty daunting when you are looking down the side of a mountain
about to take the plunge. So here are some tips from Luke Buchanan on how to
get started.
Make sure you have
all your equipment.
Luke Buchanan is pretty sure that not only is it rather embarrassing to get up
the ski lift and realize you forgot something, but it can be very cold and
uncomfortable as well. So make sure to make a list of everything you will need.
Also make sure that all the clothes and equipment fit well, especially if you
are renting. According to Luke Buchanan, the
best bet is to dress warmly, but in layers as the physical activity can warm things
up.
Take classes with
an instructor.
Or, you can get pointers from another experienced skier, like Luke Buchanan.
They can show you how to hold your body, where to put your feet, how to start
moving, and, most importantly, how to stop moving. Most resorts offer courses
at many different levels so you should be able to find some help no matter your
needs. Luke Buchanan also says you should start small. Slopes have a variety of
designations from the easiest, bunny, to the most difficult, black diamond. The
easier it is, the lower the incline and the less dangerous it is as a result.
